"Baby Got Book" by Sir Reads-A-Lot

I don't know if this video was made to get young people interested in Christianity or it was meant to be a spoof of Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby's Got Back".
Here is a sample of the lyrics:
I like big Bibles I can not lie,
You Christian brothers can’t deny,
When a girl walks in with a KJV*
And a bookmark in proverbs, You get stoked.
It got a name in place,
you know this girl has been saved
It looks like one of those large ones,
With plenty of space in the margins,
Oh baby, I want to read it with you,
Because your Bible has got pictures,
My minister tried to consult me,
But the book you’ve got makes me so Holy.
By the way, is KJV stand for King James’ Version?

Yes, KJV stands for King James Version. KJV, NKJV and NASB is the best translation from Greek/Aramaic for in depth studies purposes.
where did you get this video from? It's an amazing work.
While the video itself does not seem to appear on his site, here’s the link for Dan “Southpaw” Smith, the creator/performer of the video. His site says he’s a DJ/preacher in the Washington, D.C. area and it includes a couple of additional videos riffing on MTV’s Cribs and MJ’s “Thriller,” though neither one comes close to “Baby Got Book.”

PS. The video DOES work, but it is an AVI so you need divX to play it. You can download the free version by clicking here: http://www.divx.com/divx/download/
Peace!

What's Up Everybody
This is Jason. I helped produce the video Baby Got Book. I'm glad you guys enjoy it. If you want to go the actual site, it is www.whiteboydj.com/babygotbook. There is not a link from the main page so you have to type in babygotbook on the end. If you have any additional questions, you hit Dan up off his website. Thanks again
Hi Jason
The link you provided us with does not work?
Fun video :)

Good lyric quoting! :) Yes, KJV stands for King James Version... "Read it... read it..." ;) The music video is hype yo...
I'm the webmaster for whiteboydj.com. Our site has been hit pretty hard the past few days and we've had to change servers. Even then, our current site is visibly slow, and hurting. We're hoping to get this resolved as soon as possible, but we didn't anticipate the video would be this popular.
Just an example of how busy the site is, I can't stay logged in FTP long enough to publish the rest of the site's files!
Anyway, just wanted to give people an update... that we're working as hard as we can to get the site running. We appreciate the props, and right now, the mirrors :)
By the way, someone must have made the DivX file, because we've only produced RealMedia, Windows, and Quicktime files...
The Divx version was done by me. I am happy to mirror any files you would like me to.
Thanks, I just sent you an email!
This is a great video, my kids LOVE it. We have a very large youth group and word spreads quick about this kind of stuff. Hope you get your website fixed soon. Thanks for some good clean fun!
this was hillarious
Wow! I heard this playing in our church in someones office and we all had to go in and see what the heck it was...really cool!
You know, one of the hardest things I struggle with is I love all kinds of music, I enjoy rap and cant sing alot of it. I love the original song, the beat and all but cant sing it..its so bad!! So, I love how this gives me an alternative to the "real" song.
I wish more people would re-make the music with lyrics that I can actually sing with my kids.
kepp up the good work.
Yes, I echo the first poster that KJV indicates the King James translation of the Bible.
I would question his comment that "KJV, NKJV and NASB is the best translation from Greek/Aramaic for in depth studies purposes." First, Hebrew is a much, much more prominent Biblical language than Aramaic (which is barely present at all,) and should eb our main notation along with Greek. Second, I would not think it is particularly great policy to use the KJV for indepth study for a few reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the nuances of the English language have change a lot in the last few centuries. Other than that, there are some obvious errors in translation such as the rendering of "Joshua" as "Jesus" in Hebrews 4:8. Both the KJV and the NKJV (New King James Version) use solely texts that are not nearly as ancient as those used by other modern translations.
In what limited knowledge I have, I would tend to think that the NASB (New American Standard) or ESV (English Standard) are probably the best choices for indepth study, though that is not to say there are not plenty of positive elements to all the translations mentioned.
I discovered your blog searching for lyrics to this song, it is absolutely hilarious. Thanks for all the interesting entries.
hey i am not goin to leave a long message with all of this history stuff and all.. all that i know is that this song is a very funny song... i like it alot... and i think that it is sutible for children under the age of 13...lol... i am so dumb... and bored... well i am out...peace... i am out cuh....

Dude, this video is hilarious! I am a Bible study leader at a chruch is Louisiana... our youth minister played it on the big screen for the kids last night - white boy rap at its best!
hey what is up ? i wrote a letter yesterday... but i am goin to write again... well i know that ppl are havin problems with them sayin that it is a KJV and all but i mean i use a NKJV and i think that this song is still a funny song... i dont think that yall should b hatin on the version of the bible they r talkin about i think that yall should get a bible that is easy for yall to read and understand and all so yall should get a bible and read it... it shouldnt matter what version it is but just get one... i am out peace... stephanie
instead of you'c got a name in place in the first verse it should be she's got her name engraved
..... Kill me now ~_~
First of all on the KJV verses the rest. The KJV is the WORD of GOD the rest are commentaries at best. The Greek used in the original transscripts is a dead language that has not been spoken for centuries. Secondly if you think your other versions are so on track try comparing some of these verses KJV to them. Luke 2:33, James 5:16, Acts 20:28, Mark 10:24, Matt 12:6,42, John 3:13, John 1:18, 2tim 3:3,16 Rom 9:5, 1 Pet 2:2, Luke 23:42, Gal 5:4, 2 Cor 2:17, John 9:35 Luke 4:4,8, 1Tim 3:16, Rom 8:1, 1 Cor 5:7, Matt 6:13. These are only a few, the NIV has over 5,000 changes from the KJV. I learned very early a table is a table and a chair a chair. Two things that are different cannot be the same. The KJV is the WORD of GOD the NIV is some wattered down to make is more appealing to sinful man fake. If the NIV is so much more accurate why have they changed it and recopyrighted it more than 88 times so far. Which one of the 88 is the Word. It's all about money make a new and better version and sell some more. Try finding adultery in your NIV or HELL. I rest my case.
Exodus 20.14(NIV) "You Shall not commit adultery"
Looked up and compared your other "controversial" verses and saw very little difference beteen KJV and NIV. So if I read the NIV or (gasp) the Message, I'm doomed for eternity?
Hey
The language that the Bible was, was written so that the every day ordinary person of that time and country could read it. So, the Bible should be readable for us at our time. To say that the only Bible one should read is KJV is like saying that the Bible should only be in Latin so that the dumb peasants can't read it (this happened in history hint hint).
Plus the KJV is not as accurate to the actual Greek and Hewbrew as other readable tranlations. Also this translation was sponsered by a horrible King (King James) who was just looking for penance. I'm glad he did it because we might still be reading in latin. But I do like KJV for some things.
The real issue is that we should be listening to what God has to say to us. God speaks our language.
I wrote about the KJV not nececarily being the best a few seconds ago. but i thought that i'd add that I LOVE THIS VIDEO anyway!!!!!
I think that is a really cool song, or is it a song, and it is just a short one.
Good stuff! My website (CleanFUNNYJoke.com) now links to this video.
BTW, the only "true" text for the Word of God is the original writings (mostly Greek and Hebrew). All the rest are translations. Anyone who knows more than one language knows how difficult it is to create a perfect translation without using 5 times more words to accurately explain the original text.
For example, the apparent "error" in Hebrews 4:8 using the word "Joshua" is in fact simply a literal translation of the original Greek work. The Greek word in the original manuscript means "Jesus". Thus, the debate above about Bibles is really about literal translations versus paraphrase translations that focus on the overall meaning. Neither is necessarily "better" than the other, so long as the reader understands the difference and there are no inaccuracies.
When in doubt about a particular translation, find a priest/pastor you trust, and ask them what reference Bible they use. Expect a book that contains all of the original Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew text with lots of explanations in English (or your native language) to help you understand which senses of each word were intended.
Although I believe the KJV translation was, itself, produced with the help of the Holy Spirit, the English language has changed dramatically since then. I used to have a KJV Bible with an English-to-English dictionary. I got so confused reading English words in the KJV only to discover it used to mean something very different hundreds of years ago. If you use a KJV Bible, please be sure and ask your priest/pastor for an English-to-English dictionary so that you can understand what the words actually meant back when the KJV Bible was translated from the original Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic manuscripts.
BTW Anonymous, the one language that seems to trasncend all languages in the bible was the language Jesus, The Christ spoke. I think it was ... huh, Love your neigbor. yeah, that was it. yeah.
OK OK, I have to say this. God did not open the heavens and hand down the KJV to man. on the argument that the original KJV is the only word of God. You wouldn't be able to read the original my brother. it is written in old english and has been modernized itself more than 5 times. The new translations are the most accurate because the KJV was translated from Latin to English, and the new translations are translated from Greek and Hebrew into English. Most importantly, since the writing of the KJV. Many more ancient and much older biblical text have been found, such as the septuagent, and the massoretic text, not to mention the dead sea scrolls too. the older the document the closer you get to what was originally written. considering that copies f text were read aloud in a scriptorium and 30-40 scribes would write down what was read out. Have you ever played the gossip game? ok then you see where that is going. Finally, Do You read Greek or Hebrew? I only read one, & it is ancient Hebrew. the closest to the original Hebrew is the Revised Standard Version, next is the New living Traslation(not the living, the new living) Unless you know what you are talking about sir, do not impose your uneducated idea on others who may be seeking the truth.
Great Song. I have alredy used it in a Youth Outreach Event in my Small town. the youth loved it and asked me where they could find the song. i handed out cards with the website on them and said to go to the site.
We play the Song at our WNA events and youth dinners. and i also play the song as loud as i can so my nabours can hear it and they have never told me to turn it off.
In this small town of only 250 youth and 325 adults We all love The song and lissen to it most of the time. Even the local Halftrack driver has it playing on his passenger runs.
God bless and Great work to those who wrote the song.
As far as I know the Baby Got Book video was filmed in Joplin, MO at Ozark Christian College. A bunch of my friends go there and I recongnize one of the girls in the video. Just thought I would let ya'll know.
I can't believe this site became a debate in what bible trnslation is the most accurate. Bottom line - the video is hilarious and many different translations can be included in a well rounded and balanced study of God's Word. I loved the video because it shows that Christians can have a sense of humor.
I really wish somone could tell me how to get this on cd that would be awsome .
As an adult who has just learned about Christianity,I say: Absolutely Awesome.this video was great. Now I agree with the later person,...How can we get this on Dvd??? Work with kids and would love to have it that way to show them.Lots of fun.God Bless you even more.Way to go.

awsome song i lov it
Several people above expressed a desire to get the video on CD.
The author of this comedy/music video offers this video and several others on CD and DVD:

Proceeds go to charity!
Hey, This is a great vid and I'm going to share it with everyone I know.
Jack
The video was filmed in Centreville, VA, not Joplin, MO. Centreville is a suburb of Washington DC and home to New Life Christian Church, where Dan was employed when he wrote and produced the video.
You may recognize one of the girls in the video from Joplin because she went to school at Ozark Christian College.
To those who doubt, I am the whiteboydj.com webmaster :)
This song/video is just hilarious and also so awesome, good to know there are Christian guys out there who are looking for women who are dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, Dan did an awesome job. I first heard it at our 2005 year end party for Campus Crusade for Christ, a university Christian organization. I go to York University in Canada, and yeah, everyone's laughed so much while we were watching the video. God bless everyone!!!
to get the song on cd (along with other hilarious, clean parodies and some original work) go to whiteboydj.com and order the cd "the caucasian invasion". the profits go to raise money for the church dan is starting in cleveland.
I am amused but slightly confused. Is this video making a point about the way some christians mistake Biblical knowledge for Godliness or is there no irony? The humour comes across as almost British to me.
I find it strange that "Baby Got Back" , which many Christian evangelists would condemn as immoral - is so readily accepted in parody form when used to push Christian ideals.
It is true that a Parody is used to mock something that is considered terrible...
But is it moral to use immorality to push morality?
One to think about...
I liked the original much better. This one is too preachy. Pun intended.
Some asked on here how they can get a copy of this song on DVD or Cd. If you go to Dan's site www.whiteboydj.com you can purchase a DVD with this video and other videos he has done. Dan also is a fantastic speaker. I have seen him speak at Summer in the Son at Kentucky Christian University and he made a great impact on my life. I am also in contact with him for a speaking engagement. He is no longer in Washington DC but is starting a church, Momentum Christian Church in the Cleveland Ohio area. So for the first year or so he is unavaliable. However he definatly someone you may want to seek as a speaker for and engagement.
It was quite humerous to read many of the comments on the different translations. I am a student of the Bible, and i use the NASB for my personal study, but I like to use the NIV in lessons and sermons because of its readibility to the common person.
If you want to watch a few more videos by Dan Smith you can go to www.newlife4me.com and watch some of the video's that he created while at New Life Christian Church in Washington D.C.
Like one person said, keep the love of Christ first and formost, that is the greatest thing we as Christians can do
This is got to be one of the best christian songs i have ever heard i really my pastor showed this at church and ever body thought it was amazing i really LOVE it you know what i mean
yea this is awesome. our gym teacher showed it to us and the whole class started cracking. Of course our school is Christian. please pray 4 our school. we got some "fake Christians". Taejon Christian International School in Korea
look you guys who are fighting bout the different versions I really dont think youre representing God very well by the tone youre taking Gods word is Gods word I think KIJ version is beautiful but the NIV version is alot easier to understand for new christians I love this viedo and cant wait to use it at school by the way the person from louisianna where do you go to church im from louisiana to.
Wow i love this song it makes me smile and has changed my life. i just want to know if there is a place where you can download just the song not the video to like an mp3 player or ipod?!?!?!?
you guys need to get a life. . . this is a forum about a video and you start a debate over the best translation of the Bible? OMG theres millions of people going to hell because they don't use the KJV...you guys are funny, thats all there is to it. do you really think that once you get to heaven, that God will care what version you use? last I checked God keeps track of your faith not your translation. everyones saying this, and that, saying their translations are better, and closer to the greek, hebrew, etc. I really get a kick out of the person who said the NLT was closest to the hebrew. there are two type of translations, there are the literaltranslations, like the KJV, NASB, etc. then there are the modern english ones, these are a little more conceptual. like the New century, the NIV, and most definetly, the NLT. in fact, my personal opinion, the NLT is probably closer to a paraphrase, it changes a lot. and yes I have compared several passages to the original greek and hebrew. I prefer the KJV and the NASB. now, I am not condemning the others or anyone who likes them-if you like them, well thats great! we all follow the same God don't we, and these translations all talk about the same God, and the majority of them don't change it enough to compromise anyones salvation.
Kill Me Now, i can not stop laughing, lol. this song is the best spoof i have ever heard!!
